C-1000A Iridium™ Satellite Phone System
100115
Cabin Unit (CU) Installation
The Cabin Unit is generally mounted horizontally or vertically in a convenient
location. A latching mechanism securely grips the handset, yet allows easy release
by pressing the release buttons to disengage the latch. The SIM Card Reader in the
base of the handset cradle accepts the Iridium Subscriber identification Module (SIM)
card. This card identifies the user and is required to access the Iridium satellite
network. Green LEDs allow users to see a visual indication of ringing and use status.
NOTES:
The C-1000A Cabin Unit installation must meet the requirements for the
emergency landing conditions specified in FAR23.561Amendment 23-48
PC Data Port Interface
The Cabin Unit includes a serial port DB-9S connector that enables a PC to access
the Iridium Data Services for connection to the Internet or a corporate network, thus
allowing the user to browse the web, send and receive email and transfer files. This
capability requires the purchase of an optional Iridium Data Kit and the installation of
the included software on the users PC. Iridium Data Services can be run on a
computer using the Windows XP, 95, 98, NT 4.0, 2000 and ME Operating Systems.
This interface is also available via the DB-37 “Cabin Unit” connector on the C-1000A
Modem Unit so it can be wired to other convenient locations around the aircraft.
2-Wire Analog POTS Telephone Interface
The Cabin Unit includes a standard RJ-11 connector for a 2-wire tip and ring loop
(phone line). This circuit can connect to a 2-wire Plain Old Telephone Service
(POTS) phone. Please note that you cannot join a POTS (analog) phone
conversation using the Motorola Digital Handset. The Motorola transceiver does not
support simultaneous digital and analog outputs.
