SELECTING A SUITABLE SITE
Carefully select the site for your new pool. This is the most important decision to ensure the safety
and success of your pool’s construction. An incorrect site could cause problems in the future that may
result in injury, death, or financial loss. Carefully read the check list below when selecting your site.
Tools and Materials Required:
• Philips head screwdriver
• Flat blade screwdriver
• Adjustable wrench
• Sand shifter
• Sharp stake
• Clothes pins
• 4-ft Level
• 14-ft long, 2-in x 4-in board
• 8-in x 16-in x 2-in patio blocks sufficient to
fit under each Foot Plate / Vertical Support
• Sharp knife
• Site excavation tools
• 4-ft X 4-ft piece of plywood
• Protective gloves
Acceptable:
• Flat, level, firm, and dry ground
• Easy access to all sides of the pool
• Position in a spot with the most direct
sunlight possible
• Ensure safe access to electricity for running
the filter pump and other pool accessories
• Easy access to a water source
• Protection from wind, if possible
• A site for easily watching children
Not acceptable:
• Sloping ground
• Concrete, asphalt, sandy gravel, and
swampy ground
• Close to wooden construction e.g.,
pergolas and decking
• Next to deciduous or leafy trees
• Under wires or clothesline
• Over drains, electric wires, or gas pipelines
• Areas with poor or little drainage
• Near sprinklers or over underground
sprinkler plumbing
• High wind areas
