7. LIGHTING THE STOVE FOR THE FIRST TIME

Only small fires may be lit for the first 3-4 fires to help with the curing process.

Open airwash system approximately 50% (Top Lever ) . Open primary air fully
(Bottom Lever) See Page 18 for diagram.

Light fire lighters or loose papers and put seasoned kindling or peat on top.

Build the fire directly on the grate of the stove

Wood is burned more efficiently when the primary air is closed and using the air
wash lever to control the stove.

Burn only fuel recommended in this manual, failure to adhere to fuel guidelines
will void the extended warranty.

After each fire leave the stove to cool down completely before lighting the next
fire.

The Carraig Mor Boiler Stove is fitted with an automatic stove damper numbered 1-8
(8 being the maximum, 1 being the minimum), This allows a controlled volume of air
through the stove.

You will need to identify your zero marker in order to use this correctly  - turn the dial fully
anticlockwise until the dial does not go any further, when the dial stops this is your Zero
marker, once this is identified you can use the automatic stove damper correctly, when
starting the fire you need to turn the dial in a clockwise position and bring the number 8 to
the zero marker.

When using this damper, close the primary air lever fully and in a clockwise motion
turn the dial to number 8 allowing the maximum amount of air into the firebox in
order to get the fire established. NEVER run the automatic stove damper at 8
constantly as this will lead to a state of over fire and will affect the heat transfer to
water. This should be set at approximately 4.

The airwash can still be used at the desired level to keep the glass clean.

When the water in the boiler reaches temperature the damper will close
automatically stopping air supply.

When the water drops in temperature the damper will open again.

It is important to note that there may be an unpleasant odour for the first few
fires, this is nothing to be alarmed about, it is just part of the curing process. Keep
the room well ventilated to help alleviate this.

It is recommended that you burn your stove at high output for at least 30 minutes
each day to avoid excessive tar build up and creosote in the stove and flue system.

When the fire is burning at a satisfactory burn rate the clean burn system (Co

 burn

technology) will work automatically.

Certain sites may need increased airflow when being started, this can be done by
adjusting the levers on the top, bottom of the door and the automatic stove
damper.
