Connection examples of the safe outputs
7.1
Explanation on the examples
Loss of the safety function due to incorrectly
executed applications.
WARNING
●
Observe the information to attain the category, refer to
"Measures to meet a certain safety integrity" on page 34
.
●
To meet the specified PL, ensure that the actuator is provided with a
corresponding diagnostic coverage and a corresponding MTTFd. For
applications acc. to "PL d", a high diagnostic coverage (> 99 %) is rec‐
ommended. However, at least an average diagnostic coverage (90 %
and 99 %) and an average MTTFd are required.
For applications acc. to "PL e", a high diagnostic coverage (> 99 %) and
a high MTTFd are required.
●
Use actuators that can meet the required safety integrity.
●
Implement the evaluation of the read-back contacts to meet either cate‐
gory 3 or 4.
Loss of the safety function due to an incorrect
installation.
WARNING
●
Exclude feeding of an external voltage into an output (e.g. due to cross-
faults).
●
When wiring the connecting cables for actuators, ensure that they are
cross-fault-protected.
●
Observe the maximum load of the outputs, refer to
.
Module destruction due to an incorrect exter‐
nal voltage supply.
NOTICE
Exclude feeding of an external voltage into an output (e.g. due to cross-
faults).
In these examples, also observe the standards IEC 61508, EN
62061 and EN ISO 13849-1 in addition to the actions mentioned
in the table to meet the specified SIL/SILCL/Cat./PL.
The notes given above apply to all the following connection exam‐
ples.
Also observe the notes given in the individual connection exam‐
ples.
If the settings match, the outputs of a module can meet different safety integ‐
rities (SIL, SILCL, cat., PL) at the same time.
The examples only describe how actuators and receiving devices can be
electrically connected to the safe outputs.
