IP address
The IP address (IP = Internet protocol) is assigned by the network administrator. It identifies the
participant during data exchange.
•
Subnet mask
The subnet mask contains information on the network configuration (size of the address range). It is
assigned by the network administrator.
•
Host name
The host name is the name used to address the Ethernet participant (the tightening system's
controller unit in this case).
•
DNS
The task of the Domain Name Service (DNS) is to assign logical participant names to unique IP
addresses. This information is provided by the DNS server. Here, the DNS server is entered with its
IP address to enable the communication unit to dissolve the name if necessary (the name becomes
the IP address)

Domain name
The domain name is the same for all Ethernet participants. A participant's complete logical name is
“Tighteningsystem.Domainname”

Gateway
The gateway creates the outside connection. If a participant is not found in the network or is a
stranger, then the data packages are sent to the gateway. The gateway then searches for the receiver
and forwards the data packages.
Saving the configuration in the tightening system
The interface configuration is only valid after the settings have been sent to the tightening system.

Testing the Ethernet connection
Some typical test functions to set up an Ethernet connection have been implemented in the tightening
system's operating system. These functions are summarized in the menu under
System test
Ethernet.
The data needed for configuration are determined by the network administrator. Modifications to the same
could influence the entire network or even result in connection failure.

communication unit with their host names instead of their IP addresses.
