water and cleaning vinegar in the pan, bring to
the boil and then scrape clean using a wooden
or plastic scraper. This method will also remove
discoloration caused by overheating.
• Discoloration caused by severe overheating
cannot be removed. This discolouration is
brownish or bluish. However, it can be reduced
slightly by using a stainless steel cleaner. This
discoloration is a normal property of high-grade
steel and will not affect the functioning of the pan.
• Some food has a high iron content. If this food
is left in the pan for a long time, iron will be
deposited on the surface and this will look like
rust. Examples of food with a high iron content
are some meats, leafy vegetables such as
spinach, nuts and fruit. High-grade steel cannot
rust, so any rust seen on the pan always comes
from food deposits.
