Planning your dive
Overview
An essential part of using your ROV is planning how and where it will be used.
Charge ROV Battery
Make sure you allow enough time to fully charge the ROV battery before your
dive. For instructions, see
Section 15: ROV battery charging and discharging
.
Safety
This manual cannot possibly predict all possible conditions you will encounter
while using your ROV. Nor can we specify all the planning and risk mitigation
steps you need to take as ROV operators. Among the things you need to
consider are:
Your dive plan and objectives
Your team – who will pilot the ROV and who will manage the tether cable?
How will you communicate effectively?
Weather conditions
Sea / water conditions
Underwater hazards
Communication with others, eg divers, boat skipper
Hazards from ROV components and cables
Contingency / recovery plans.
Keeping the ROV cool
The ROV should be kept cool (below 30C) while out of the water, otherwise the
camera may shut off without warning.
During transport to the dive site, keep the ROV in the shade and away from hot
areas such as engine rooms. At the dive site, avoid leaving the ROV in the sun –
if this is impossible, cover with a wet towel. Also avoid leaving the ROV powered
on while out of the water.
If the camera shuts off, press the Video button
(28)
on the Control Station once
to restart the camera. Note that the camera may keep shutting off once it has
overheated.
