How to clean the fibre optic cables and inputs
Clean fibre optic cable ends
This process is for cleaning the ends of the fibre optic cables at the following
points:
The end of tether cable at the tether penetrator point
Both ends of the fibre optic patch cable.
To do this, you will use the fibre optic cleaning pen with only the very top of the
plastic cap removed, as shown below.
Follow the below steps for each cable end point, taking care to minimise
exposure of the cable ends.
Remove the top plastic cap from the end of the pen
Remove the protective cap from the end of the fibre optic cable
Insert the uncapped end of the cable into the end of the pen, as shown
below.
Push the pen towards the cable until you hear and feel a click
That’s it! Replace the cap on the cable and the cap on the pen.
Clean fibre optic cable inputs on Control Station and tether
reel
You will use the Fibre Optic Pen Cleaner to clean the following connection
points (both are covered by a coloured cap):
Fibre optic patch cable input on the Control Station
Fibre optic patch cable input on the tether reel.
