❐
Variant
Variant describes the standards and
protocols used by the CO switch. Only certain
combinations of switch type and variant are valid. For
example, if the switch type is Lucent 5ESS, the variant
is AT&T Custom; if the switch type is NTI DMS-100,
typically, the variant is Nortel Custom. The generic
CCITT supports a variety of switch types.
❐
Port Numbering Plan
Service providers use
numbering plans to make sure that each device (like
the IRAS-24A card) on the network has a unique
telephone number.
For outgoing calls, the IRAS-24A card must dial
telephone numbers in conformance with the
numbering plan. Most service providers in the U.S.
use an ISDN numbering plan.
❐
Port Number Type
The number type identifies the
general destination for outgoing calls from the
IRAS-24A card. Typically, the number type indicates
the maximum number of digits in each phone number
dialed by the card. For example, the number type
National allows the IRAS-24A card to dial is 7 to 10
digit (including area code) phone numbers. To make
an outgoing call, the IRAS-24A card must use the
proper combination of number type and numbering
plan.
