Adjusting the stitch length and
width

stitch 04.

Press the “+” or “–” side of

• When the stitch length or stitch width is changed
from the standard setting, around or
disappears from the LCD.
CAUTION
• After adjusting the stitch width, slowly turn
the handwheel toward you (counterclockwise)
and check that the needle does not touch the
presser foot. If the needle hits the presser foot,
the needle may bend or break.
• If the stitches are bunched together, increase
the stitch length. Continuing to sew with the
stitches bunched together may result in the
needle bending or breaking.
Starting to sew

Raise the needle in the following way.

Turn the handwheel so
that the mark on the
wheel points up.

Press the Needle position
button (for the models
equipped with this button).

Raise the presser foot lever.

Place the fabric under the presser foot, pass
the thread under the presser foot, and then
pull out about 5 cm (2 inches) of thread
toward the rear of the machine.

While holding the end of the thread and
the fabric, turn the handwheel toward you
(counterclockwise) to lower the needle to the
starting point of the stitching.

Lower the presser foot lever.

(For models equipped with a sewing speed
controller)
Slide the sewing speed controller to the left or
right to adjust the sewing speed. Refer to “Sewing
speed controller (for models equipped with the
start/stop button)” (page 9).
