When a unit is fully charged, the charger will switch to trickle-charge mode to maintain the
charge without damaging the battery through overcharging.
To charge more than three Type 4448s simultaneously:
1) Plug Power Supply ZG-0864 into either of the two DC connectors on the back of a 3-way
charger.
2) Insert the power supply into a 230 V/110 V socket.
3) Plug one end of the extension cable (AO-1493) into the free DC socket of the primary charger
or last charger in the link (Fig.2.3).

4) Plug the other end of the extension cable (AO-1493) into one of the DC sockets of the next
charger.
5) To link a third or fourth charger repeat steps 2 and 3, using the extension cable to connect
another 3-way Charger with the free DC socket of the last charger in the chain.
6) Once the chargers are linked, follow steps 3 – 5, above, for all units to be charged.
Charging from fully discharged takes about 90 minutes. The charging time will be reduced if the
battery was only partially discharged. The built-in NiMH batteries do not need to be fully
discharged before recharging.
A new, fully charged battery will provide power for about 28 hours measurement time, though it
might take a few initial charge-discharge cycles for the battery to develop full capacity. The capacity
will drop over time and is expected to drop to 80% after approximately 500 charging cycles.
To keep capacity performance, it is recommended to occasionally fully discharge (keep the
instrument running until the power is almost entirely used up) and recharge the battery.
Especially make sure to recharge the instrument from time to time even if it is not used for an
extended period (several weeks or months of no use), since overly discharging the NiMH cells
might cause cell degeneration and damage to the instrument.
