3. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

3.01

Figure 1-2 is a functional block diagram of the Integrated Fan/Power Supply assembly.

The AC input to the assembly is switched, fused (both legs of the AC input line), and filtered

before  being  distributed  to  the  AC/DC power converter(s). The assembly contains the AC/DC

power converter impeller cooling  fans, and the three “box” type fans that are used to cool the

HWX  Equipment  Shelf.

Figure 1-2. Integrated Fan/Power Supply Functional Block Diagram

3.02

The  primary  and  redundant  (dual  supply  version) AC/DC  power  converters  convert

the  filtered AC  input  to  regulated  -48 VDC  outputs. The  -48 VDC  outputs  from  the  power

converters  are  routed  to  the  rear  panel  to  individual  3-position  screw-type  terminal  blocks

(Power Supply A, and Power Supply B for the dual supply version).

3.03

Each power converter provides input and output status signals to the front panel LEDs.

The

green

AC LEDs will illuminate when the AC input to the converters are at an acceptable

level. The

green

DC LEDs will illuminate when the DC output from the converters are at an

acceptable  level. All  the  LEDs  are  placed  on  the  LED  printed  circuit  board,  located  in  the

assembly,  and  receives  their  DC  power  from  the  primary  (A)  supply.

3.04

Individual, 25 cfm impeller cooling fans are used to provide cooling air to the power

converters. The  air  from  these  fans  are  directed  across  the  supply’s  heat  sink  and  exhausted

out the side of the assembly. These fans are independent of the “box” type fans that are used

to provide cooling air to the HWX Equipment Shelf.

3.05

Three (3) AC input “box” type fans are located across the width of the assembly. Each

of these fans is capable of providing a minimum of 105 cfm. The fans are positioned such that

when  the  Integrated  Fan/Power  Supply  assembly  is  placed  above  an  HWX  Equipment  Shelf,

they will draw cooling air up through the shelf, and then exhausted from the top of the Fan/Power

Supply assembly.
