MP800 Standard Media Encoding Guide
Description
:
The purpose of this document is to provide information on encoding media for the CE labs MP800 players.
The MP800 supports several formats: MPEG-4 part 10 (h.264), MPEG-2, and HEVC. Windows Media 9 is
not supported on the MP800. MPEG-2 or -4 can take the form of a program stream or transport stream.
All media encoded at 4K resolution must use HEVC codec.
Video Decoding Format Support
.
*HEVC/h.265, Main and Main10 Profile
up to 3840x2160 @ 60FPS
*MPEG2, Main Profile
up to 1920x1080 @ 60FPS
*MPEG4.2 ASP@L5
up to 1920x1080 @ 60FPS
*MPEG4.10 (H.264)
up to 1920x1080 @ 60FPS
*VP9 8b
While the player supports much higher bit rates, it is best to average 40Mb/s or less to allow for peak excursions.
Audio Decoding Format Support .
*MPEG1 Layers I and II
*MPEG4 AAC-LC 5.1
*WMA
*FLAC
*AC3 / E-AC3
*MP3
*WAV
Graphics Layer
.
Optimum resolution for the graphics layer is 1920x1080. Photos and images integrated into a graphics layout should be 1 MB or less
in order to minimize file loading times. Do not use raw images.
For optimum 4K playback, we suggest using the HEVC codec in a MKV container, which is specified below. MP4 is acceptable
Best Format Recommendation:
MP800 Video/Audio Encoding Settings for HEVC (h.265 Codec)
Video Settings:
File Format (Container):
MKV
Frame rate:
23.97 or 29.97
Codec:
h.265, Main or Main10 Profile
Max Resolution:
3840 x 2160
Color-Space:
YUV420pl10le, 4:2:0 (bt709)
Aspect Ratio (DAR):
16:9
CU Size:
64
GOP:
No open frames
Bit Depth:
10 bit color (minimizes color gradient transition banding)
Bit rate:
Variable bit rate = Target: 30 - 40 Mb/s - Maximum: 60 Mb/S (Maintain a minimum of 500 Kb/s).
For minimum file size, a target bit rate of 15Mb/s may be desirable.
If using a fixed bit rate, 20 Mb/s produces an excellent picture with manageable file sizes.
Audio Settings:
Codec:
AAC (Mpeg 4)
Output Channels:
Stereo
Frequency:
44.1 kHz or 48 kHz
Bit rate:
192 kbps
Volume level:
Target: -12 dB
Note:
Frame rate and frequency will need to be the same as the source video being encoded
Suggested programs for encoding content:
The p
rimary use of the MP800 will be playback of 4K video media. Good results have been achieved in using “ffmpeg” for encoding
HEVC 4K files to use with this player. When processing already compressed files, use a CRF factor of 20 or lower.
Note: All media processing should be performed at a minimum of 10 bits. Truncating color depth to 8 bits to reduce file size can cause
objectionable bands to become visible in areas of gradient color transitions. If 8 bit color is mandatory, use less aggressive compression.
