Using the Tuner Input on the MP800T
The unit may be ordered with an integrated tuner
module that supports ATSC and QAM signal formats.
In order to use the tuner for a particular mode, press the
menu button and navigate to PLAYER SETUP,
CONFIGURATION, and TUNER SETTINGS. Select
the TunerChannelMode that is desired. There are four
options:
Fixed ATSC Table
Fixed QAM64 Table
Fixed QAM256 Table
Scanned Table
Choose the desired mode and select Save Changes.
Depending upon the selection made, there may be one more step. For the three Fixed Table modes, the tuner setup is done and it is
ready to use. If you select Scanned Table, you will need to navigate back one screen and then select the type of modulation table
that you wish to scan. This will depend of course on the type of signal connected to the tuner input. If you have and ATSC off-air
antenna, and you wish to use the scanned table, first select Scanned Table and then select ATSC on the screen shown below. When
the Scan type is selected the unit will begin a scan of the available channels present at the input of the tuner module. This will take
several minutes and there will be a progress bar at the bottom of the screen.
There is one very important point to remember about
the channel lineup. In the Fixed Table mode, you will
be inputting the direct channel RF numbers. This
means that if you are using ATSC off –air signals, you
will need to know the actual broadcast channel of a
station. It is almost always different than the call letters
of the station due to the ATSC being relocated to the
UHF band during the initial transition period. For
example, in our area, NBC channel 5 is broadcast on
UHF channel 41. In Fixed Table mode, we input 41-1
when we wish to tune to NBC. The same holds true for
the QAM channels. The Fixed Table mode refers to the
actual physical RF Frequency and not the logical
channel assignment embedded in the carrier.
For the Scanned Table mode, you will input the logical
channel assignment for the desired channel. Going
back to our example of NBC, for Scanned Channel
mode, we would input 05-1 in order to tune to the NBC
station.
The tuner input will work over a wide signal range from -20 to +30 dBmV. If you are experiencing freezing video, the
signal level may be too low if there are several RF splitters inline. Try to locate the MP800 close to the RF source or
amplify the RF signal before the main signal splitter.
