CHAPTER 4
TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES
4.1
GENERAL
The Micro-CS’s front panel displays 4 system indicators and 9 status
indicators. The system indicators are labeled STATUS, NET, ATTN,
and SETUP. The status indicators are labeled 1 through 7, M(odem), and
INT.
The system indicators provide information about normal operations and
about problems that occur. Use these indicators and the ROM Monitor
commands to diagnose problems.
The status indicators display port activity during normal operations; each
indicator supports 1 port.
During power-up and booting it is more complicated to diagnose
problems because they can originate in the Micro-CS or the load server
host. However, the indicators provide both a progress report and an error
display to assist you in troubleshooting.
4.2
POWER-UP AND BOOT PROCEDURES
The Micro-CS has two modes of operation: normal and SETUP. Normal
mode is the standard operational mode. Set Up mode provides access to
the ROM Monitor commands. Pressing the SETUP switch on the front
panel within 3 seconds of powering–up puts the Micro-CS into SETUP
mode. When the Micro-CS is in SETUP mode the SETUP indicator
lights.
During the power-up and boot sequence the Micro-CS performs a set of
diagnostics. The system indicators display the diagnostics status. The
Micro-CS stops when it detects one of two error conditions (see Table
4-2). The pattern of the system indicators identifies the error condition.
4.2.1
Normal Mode
Upon power-up or reset the Micro-CS enters normal mode. The following
subsections describe both the possible error and error-free conditions that
can occur during power-up and booting in normal mode.
