Configuring the Switch
CSM Redundancy Commands
Use the
execute csmswitchover
command to manually switch mastership to the redundant CSM module. Keep in
mind that switching over to the redundant CSM automatically reboots the SmartSwitch 6500. For example:
Smart6500 # execute csmswitchover
Switching CSM slot
— SmartSwitch 6500 reboots; move cables to new master CSM
Caution
Remember that both the console port cable and Ethernet port cable must be
connected to the master CSM module. If CSM mastership changes, both the
console and Ethernet port cables must be physically moved to the new master
CSM.

USING THE CONSOLE
Use the SmartSwitch 6500 console interface to configure and manage your switch. The following is a description of
the console interface and its operation.
3.2.1
Port Numbering
The SmartSwitch 6500 is capable of containing both physical and virtual ports. The following conventions are used
for numbering ports on the SmartSwitch 6500.
Physical Ports
Physical ports are numbered according to the following convention:
slot number I/O module letter port number
For example, port 3 of I/O module A on the TSM in slot 5 is represented by:
5A3
Virtual Ports
Virtual ports are designated by a period (
.
), and the virtual port number is appended to the physical port number. For
example, virtual port 2 on physical port
7B1
is represented as:
7B1.2
