Chapter 4: Learning Configuration Expert Basics
Configuration Files
Configuration Expert stores SSR configuration information in the following configuration
files:
•
Active Configuration—a file containing the configuration settings for the current SSR
session.
•
Startup Configuration—a file containing the configuration settings used whenever the
SSR is started.
•
Custom Configuration—a file in which you can save the settings of an Active
Configuration file. Custom Configuration files let you:
–
Save changes when you have not finished making changes to an Active
Configuration file or you are not ready to have such changes take effect at this time
or later when you restart the SSR.
–
Quickly change the SSR’s configuration for different environments. Suppose you
are configuring the SSR to establish traffic priority for an accounting department.
You could create one Custom Configuration file for the handling of traffic at the
end-of-a-month, and create another Custom Configuration file for handling traffic
at the end of the fiscal year. You would then be able to quickly switch traffic
priority by configuring the SSR with the desired Custom Configuration file.
You can save configuration settings by committing those changes to a configuration file as
discussed in
“Committing Your Configuration Changes” on page 46
.
Configuration Expert includes a CLI editor that you can open by selecting the Configure
menu and choosing Open Config CLI Editor. Use this editor to type CLI commands into
a configuration file. The following figure summarizes the CLI Editor toolbar, which is
located at the top of the CLI Editor window:
