Flap Inoperative Approach and
Landing checklist in the CAE Simu-
Flite Citation Bravo Operating
Handbook or the AFM.
Two major adjustments to a normal
approach are the increased landing
distance multiplying factor and the
adjusted V
REF
for the flap setting. If
the flap position indicator does not
agree with the position of the flap
handle, move the handle to agree
with the indicator. Check that the
FLAP CONTROL CB is set.
Perform the approach with the flaps
jammed at 15° while maintaining an
airspeed of V
APP.
For flaps at 0° or
unknown, perform the approach
while maintaining V
APP
+5.
During the initial phase of the
approach, maintain a minimum
speed of original V
REF
+30 KIAS
(VZF) with target power at approxi-
mately 60% N
1
until the flap inoper-
ative adjusted V
REF
is established.
Speedbrakes may be used during the
approach. Lower the landing gear
early in the approach to help control
airspeed. Once established on final,
reduce speed to adjusted V
REF
+10
+wind factor.
Depending on flap setting, the power
setting may be as low as idle during
the descent to maintain the approach
speed. Ensure that the autopilot/yaw
damper is off and that the speed-
brakes are retracted to complete the
checklist.
During landing, the aircraft has a ten-
dency to float in ground effect due to
the increased airspeed and low drag
configuration. Once touch down
occurs on the main wheels, bring the
nose wheel in firm contact with the
runway, and use speedbrakes and
thrust reversers as normal to slow
the aircraft. However, use a pro-
nounced forward pressure on the
control wheel when deploying the
trust reversers to prevent the aircraft
nose from pitching up. Allowing the
nose to pitch up could result in the
aircraft lifting off the runway with
the reversers deployed at danger-
ously low and possibly uncontrolla-
ble flight speeds.
Go-Around/Missed
Approach/Balked Landing
Refer to the profiles on pages 3D-51
and 3D-47.
Accomplish the go-around/missed
approach/balked landing at the DH
or MDA with time expired (if appli-
cable) and runway visual reference
either not in sight or not in a position
from which a normal visual landing
approach can be accomplished.
An approach with a Visual Descent
Point (VDP) positions the aircraft
for a normal glideslope to landing.
When an aircraft proceeds beyond
the VDP without visual reference to
the runway, the probability of a
missed approach is increased.
Go-Around Procedure
Accomplish the following.
1. Apply go-around power.
2. Push the go-around button; rotate
to the flight director go-around com-
mand bars (i.e, approximately 12°
nose-up).
3. With airspeed at a minimum of
V
AC
, set flaps to T.O. & APPR.
Retract gear at indication of a posi-
tive rate of climb on both altimeter
and VSI.
4. When clear of obstacles, above
Level-off Altitude, and at minimum
airspeed of V
REF
+ 20 KIAS, retract
the remaining flaps and accelerate to
V
ENR
minimum before continuing
the climb. Adjust pitch attitude and
power as necessary.
