After landing, the battery requires
maintenance to determine if there is
cell damage.
Electrical Fire or Smoke
After donning oxygen masks, select
100% OXYGEN and place the oxy-
gen microphone switch in MIC
OXY MASK. Ensure that the pres-
surization source selector is in
NORM and the cockpit divider door
is open. Whether or not smoke has
dissipated, if it cannot be visually
confirmed that any fire has been
extinguished after following Fire
Suppression and/or Smoke Evacua-
tion procedures, land immediately at
the nearest suitable airport.
With a known source, pull the appro-
priate circuit breaker(s) to isolate the
faulty circuit(s).
With an unknown source, turn the
cockpit floodlights to FULL
BRIGHT (at night), place the battery
switch in EMER, and turn both gen-
erators OFF. With the battery switch
in EMER and generator switches
OFF, the battery provides at least 30
minutes of power to the Emergency
bus items (refer to
Table 5C-A)
.
The standby gyro will continue to
operate for a minimum of 30 min-
utes powered by its own emergency
battery pack. This battery pack also
provides 5V emergency instrument
lighting for the standby gyro, the
standby HSI, the N
1
/ITT indicators,
and the standby altimeter/airspeed
indicator vibrator. Ensure that the
cabin services (refreshment center,
cabin lights) are OFF.
Refer to
Table 5C-C
for systems
made inoperative with the battery
switch in EMER and the generator
switches off. Items marked with (*)
in
Table 5C-C
may be restored when
the left generator is turned on when
landing is assured.
The audio panels are powered by the
Emergency bus and headsets are not
required.
Turn both windshield bleed air man-
ual valves OFF (or MINIMUM for
clear vision through the windshield)
to prevent an excessive amount of
hot air from reaching the windshield.
The windshield bleed air shutoff
valve fails open. Turn all electrical
switches off except for emergency
items. Pull the DC Power RH BUS
NO. 1, 2, and 3 CBs; pull the RH CB
PANEL Circuit Breaker; and pull
AC INVERTER NO. 1 Circuit
Breaker. Land as soon as possible
(within 30 minutes).
If the severity of smoke warrants,
initiate Smoke Removal and/or
Emergency Descent procedures.
Land as soon as possible.
When landing is assured, turn the
left generator to GEN. Extend the
landing gear DOWN and select flaps
LAND. Maintain airspeed at V
REF
.
If smoke or fire restarts, reset the left
generator to OFF. Plan for wheel
brakes failure when landing. (Refer to
Abnormal Procedures for WHEEL
BRAKE FAILURE.) The anti-skid
system is inoperative; power brakes
are available until accumulator dis-
charges. Multiply landing distance by
1.5. Be prepared to use the emer-
gency braking system.
Loss of Both Generators
Illumination of the amber GEN OFF
L/R and MASTER WARNING
lights indicates a dual generator fail-
ure. Direct primary action toward
attempting to reset both generators.
If only one generator resets,
decrease electrical load as much as
possible. Limit operating generator
load to 400 amps to 35,000 ft. and to
315 amps above 35,000 ft.
