fromthehostconsoleaspartofaVCA
group.
TheexistingmechanismforcreatingVCA
groupshasbeenextendedtoallowVCA
controlofRemoteFadersonanRP1unit
byselectingapathorblankfaderonthe
hostconsoleastheVCAMaster,pressing
andholdingdownitsAssignbuttonon
theconsolesurfaceandthenpressingthe
assignbuttonsofthoseRemoteFader
pathsthataretobeVCAslavestothat
VCAmaster.
TherearerulesaboutconnectingTX
andRemotefadersthatdifferfromthe
normalVCAsystemandvariouscases
havetobehandledonConnectionand
Disconnectionbetweenthehostconsole
andtheRP1unitandhowtohandlethe
combinationoffadersunderPairedand
VCAcontrol:
IftheRemotefaderisn’tpairedwithaTX
faderitjustbehavesasanormalVCA
slavefollowingtheVCAmaster.
IfjusttheTXfaderismadeaslaveofa
VCAgroup,theRemotefaderwillnot
followtheVCAmasterbutitwillstillbe
pairedandfollowtheTXfaderwithmay
includeanoffset.
IfjusttheRemotefaderismadeaslaveof
aVCAgroup,theTXfaderwillnotfollow
theVCAmasterbutitwillstillbepaired
andfollowtheRemotefaderwhichmay
includeanoffset.
IfboththeTXfaderandtheRemotefader
aremadeslavesofaVCAgrouptheyboth
followtheVCAmasterandalsofollow
eachotheraspaired.
Note:Remotefadersonthehostconsole
cannotbemadeVCAMasters.

Additionalscalesappearonthedisplay
toshowtheresultantSlaveLevel(SL)
thatresultswhenaddingtheVCAmaster
levelof-10dBtotheRemoteFaderlevel
of+5dBtoproducearesultant(SL)audio
levelof-5dB.
Thereareissuesrelatingtowhathappens
whentheRP1unitandhostconsole
becomedisconnected:iftheVCA
Masterwasdownatthebottomanda
disconnectionhappensthereisnoway
thatthechannelcanbeopenedfrom
theRP1unit.Thisisbecausethefader
software(intheRP1unit)willnotallow
aslavetobeopenedifthemasterisoff.
Similarly,iftheVCAmasterisCut,the
channelontheRP1unitcannotbeuncut.
WhentheconnectionbetweentheRP1
unitandthehostconsoleisbroken
(foranyreason)orwhentheRP1unitis
‘Independent’,theseRP1faderswillhave
afadervalue(SLvalue)andaMRvalue
(possiblyincorporatingaPrimaryMR
value).Theseneedtopersisttocaterfor
intermittentconnections.
TheMRandSLlevelsaresavedinRP1
unitShowsandMemories.Thismeans
theycanbesavedwhentheRP1unit
goesIndependentandrecalledwhen
Independenceisturnedoff.Although
theywillbeimmediatelyoverwrittenby
thehostifitisconnected,theRP1unit
willatleastbeabletobereturnedtothe
samestateasitwasinbeforeitwent
Independent.
TheVCAmasterMRfaderandVCAslave
SLfaderdisplaysareshown,withthe
relevantMR&SLlevels,foraslongasthe
RP1unitthinksthesefadersareslaves,
includingwhenitisnotconnectedoris
Independent.
