handles.Oninsertion,thehandlesshould
besetagainsttheouteredge(thesame
sideasthereleasecatchontheRJ45/
LCconnectorplugthatfitsintotheSFP)
tolockitintoplaceandpreventaccidental
removalifcablesarepulled.
ToremovethisstyleofSFP,removethe
cable/fibreandslidethehandle(copper)
orliftthehandleout(fibre)totheinside
edge,asshowninthediagramtotheright.
Themodulecanthenberemovedby
pullingonthehandle.
OtherSFPsautomaticallylatchintoplace
whentheyareinsertedfullyandtheyhave
areleasebuttonontheirinsideedge.
ThefibreSFPsshownintheorientation
diagramsandonthispageareofthistype
andhavebluereleasebuttons.Toremove,
depressthebuttonusingasmallflat
blade,screwdriverorsimilartool.TheSFP
modulewillthenbefreetoberemoved.
SFPSlotCovers
DustcoversshouldbefittedtoallSFP
slotsthatdonothaveSFPmodulesfitted
intheminordertomaintainconnection
reliability.
LooseSFPStorage
SFPmodulesaresmall,yetreasonably
expensivedevices.Whenremovingor
changingSFPs,takecaretokeeptrackof
themandstoreloosemodulesinaclean,
dry,andanti-staticenvironment.Fibre
SFPsshouldalwayshaveadustcover
fittedintotheiropticaltransceiverend
whennofibreisconnectedtothem.

missing SFP modules, or damage
due to poor storage.

dependingonthemanufacturer,please
ensurethatSFPsarecorrectlylatched
inplaceafterfittingthem.Intheevent
thataconnectionisnotautomatically
establishedafterhot-plugginganSFP,
pleaseresettheunittheSFPisplugged
into.
