FIPS 140-2
This section describes the (optional) FIPS 140-2
cryptographic mode of operation.
PTP 800 provides an optional secure cryptographic mode of operation validated to Level 1
of Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 140-2.
FIPS 140-2 capability
A PTP 800 unit is capable of operating in the FIPS 140-2 mode when all of the following
are true:
•
The CMU license key has AES encryption enabled.
•
The CMU license key has FIPS operation enabled.
•
The CMU software image is validated for FIPS operation.
•
The CMU tamper evident label has not be interfered with (
).

Validated software image
FIPS validated software images are indicated by a -
FI PS
suffix to the file name, for
example:
PTP8 0 0 - 0 4 - 1 0 - FI PS. DLD2
. The general features of a FIPS validated software image
are identical to those of the standard image with the same version number. For example,
PTP8 0 0 - 0 4 - 1 0 - FI PS. DLD2
is equivalent to
PTP8 0 0 - 0 4 - 1 0 . DLD2
apart from the ability of the
FIPS image to operate in FIPS mode.
