Chapter 4: Feature Description
Innovative Techniques to Boost Capacity and Reduce
Latency

L4:
o
UDP header (8 bytes)
o
TCP header (28 bytes)
The following figure provides a detailed diagram of how the frame structure is affected by Header
De-Duplication.
Figure 9 Header De-Duplication Operation on Frame Structure
PTP 820S’s Header De-Duplication can improve effective throughput by up to 300% or more
without affecting user traffic.
Note
In a worst-case scenario, Header De-Duplication may add up to 200ns latency.
Header De-Duplication Counters
In order to help operators optimize Header De-Duplication, PTP 820S provides counters when
Header De-Duplication is enabled. These counters include real-time information, such as the
number of currently active flows and the number of flows by specific flow type. This information
can be used by operators to monitor network usage and capacity, and optimize the Header De-
Duplication settings. By monitoring the effectiveness of the de-duplication settings, the operator
can adjust these settings to ensure that the network achieves the highest possible effective
throughput.
