BEFORE DEPARTURE

Check exterior of the vessel for damage, cleanliness and correct waterline
•
Ensure that hatches, seats and bow storage doors are in place and secure
•
Inspect lines for wear
•
Ensure that proper navigational charts and safety equipment is in order
•
Make sure that there are enough flotation devices of appropriate size for everyone on board
•
Test steering by opening the aft deck hatch, and turning the wheel while inspecting the linkage under the hatch to ensure it is connected and operational
•
Check your E-Meter to ensure that the batteries are fully charged.
•
Ensure navigation lights are operational
•
Check bilge pump operation
•
Verify the load of your boat is well distributed
•
Check the weather forecast
•
Check for local hazards or boating restrictions
•
Let someone know where you are going, when to expect you back and what your boat looks like
DURING OPERATION
•
Observe E-Meter and instrument panel periodically to ensure proper functioning of the electrical system.
•
Listen for unusual noises or vibration
•
Feel for changes in maneuverability
•
Feel for changes in speed
•
Always follow local laws and regulations
AFTER OPERATION
•
Maneuver the vessel onto dock, and secure before recharging the batteries
•
Put the ignition switch OFF
•
Don’t leave the keys in the boat
•
Shore power cord plugged into the on-board charger
•
Visual check that the charger light is green
•
Clean vessel and remove dirt and debris
•
Inspect bilge water level, and remove any foreign objects
•
Stow PFD’s and other safety gear for next use
Owners and operators of pleasure craft should brief all guests and future operators about safe operation before heading out. Guests should be told
where the safety equipment is kept and how to use it.
