Chapter 12
Periodic Cleaning
Your copier/fax requires little periodic maintenance. This section describes the
necessary cleaning procedures for your copier/fax. Please note the following before
cleaning your unit:
• Be sure to disconnect the power cord before cleaning the copier/fax. Since
documents in memory are erased when the power is disconnected, print any
documents stored in memory before disconnecting the power cord. (

• Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, or similar materials for cleaning; they can stick
to the components or generate static charges.

Never use volatile liquids such as thinners, benzene, acetone, or any other chemical
cleaner to clean the interior of the copier/fax; these can damage the copier/fax
components.
Cleaning the Copier/Fax’s Exterior
Follow this procedure to clean the unit’s outer casing:

Disconnect the power cord from the
copier/fax.

Wipe the unit’s exterior with a clean, soft,
lint-free cloth moistened with water or
diluted dishwashing detergent solution.

When you are finished, reconnect the power
cord.
Cleaning the Copier/Fax’s Interior
Cleaning Inside the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder)
To prevent ink spots and paper dust from accumulating inside the copier/fax and
affecting print quality, clean the unit’s print area periodically.
Follow this procedure to clean inside the copier/fax:

Disconnect the power cord from the
copier/fax.
