I. Upgrading
The Service Support Tool (Version 3.11 or later) is available via the Canon
USA e-Support Center for updating the following system components:
•
System Software stored on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
•
Language
•
HD Format
•
Remote User Interface (RUI) stored on the HDD
•
MEAP Cont
•
BootROM stored on a Flash Memory Module on the Main Controller
Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
When the HDD is replaced, the Service Support Tool is used to format the
new HDD and load software. Canon USA will make the data for these
updates available to the dealers via CD-ROM.
Note:
A PC is required to flash firmware. Use a Network Cross-Over cable
as an interface between the personal computer and the imageRUNNER
device for high-speed data transmission.

Computer Requirements For Upgrading
Canon USA strongly recommends that dealers have a computer (desktop or
laptop) available for use as a primary service tool to adequately service the
imageRUNNER device.
The following are the recommended Desktop PC or laptop specifications

Free HDD Capacity: 400MB of available hard disk space

Monitor Resolution: SVGA (800 x 600)

Serial Port: RS-232C (D-sub 9-pin connector)

Printer Port, Bi-Centronics (IEEE 1284) ECP mode
8)
Network Connection (Ethernet-RJ45)

10) CD-ROM
Drive
11) Operating System: Windows 98/XP/2000, Windows NT 4.0
Necessary Cables:

Cross-Over Ethernet Cable
The RS-232C cable is included with the Downloader PCB Assembly
(FY9-2034-000).
