Scan Kiosk II V2.0 Setup and Administrator’s Guide
1.2.2.3 Network Environment
The Scan Kiosk II device supports the network protocols described below.
•
Network Protocol:
Scan Kiosk II uses the TCP/IP protocol to connect to the network.
•
IP Address Assignment:
The TCP/IP protocol uses one IP address for each device connected to the
network via DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). The Administrator
can configure static IP address for each device via the Windows Admin mode. For
more information, see
“Accessing the Windows Admin Mode,”
•
DHCP Support:
Scan Kiosk II uses the DHCP. The DHCP obtains the device’s IP address
automatically from a DHCP server. If this is acceptable for your network
environment, you do not have to configure the IP address for the device.
•
1000Base-T Support:
Scan Kiosk II supports up to 1000Base-T Ethernet. However, communication
may be slower than the communication speed of the network, depending on the
number of devices connected to the network and the type of hub.
•
SMTP (E-mail) Server Support
If you set up an SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server, you can send
scanned image files directly from a supported scanner to an e-mail address.
1.2.2.4 Directory Service Support
The Scan Kiosk II device supports the directory services described below.
•
Active Directory:
Active Directory enables network administrators to create and manage domains,
users, and objects within a network. For example, an Administrator can create a
group of users and give them specific access privileges to certain directories on
the server.
●
OpenLDAP Server:
OpenLDAP servers connect to the network through the LDAP (Lightweight
Directory Access Protocol). OpenLDAP enables an Administrator to authenticate
registered users on the OpenLDAP server, reference their e-mail addresses, and
register them in the Address Book in Scan Kiosk II.
