use eye and ear protection.
Always wear ANSI-approved impact safety goggles and
work gloves.
avoid working alone.
If an accident happens, an assistant can bring help.
avoid electrical shock.
Use extreme caution when testing uninsulated conductors
or bus bars. Prevent body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators,
ranges and cabinet enclosures when testing.
maintain tools with care. inspect the multimeter before use.
Make certain that
the Multimeter has a fresh battery. Pay special attention to the insulation protecting
the probes and lead.
Do not use the multimeter if:
The test leads are damaged in any way
The battery is low
Any abnormal operation is detected (if in doubt about the condition of the Multimeter,
have it serviced)
The battery cover is open.
check the leads for exposed metal, damaged insulation, and continuity. replace
damaged test leads immediately, before use.
Do not test voltage on circuits higher than 600 volts ac or 600 volts Dc.
Do not test current on circuits higher than 200 ma (0.2 amps).
Do not expose to rain or wet conditions.
Water entering will increase the risk of
electric shock.
Disconnect the multimeter from the power source before making any adjustments,
changing accessories, or storing the tool. always cap the probe and test lead
before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures.
Such
preventive safety measures reduce the risk of electric shock.
Do not operate in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable
liquids, gases, or dust.
Sparks may ignite the dust or fumes.
Do not switch between testing modes with the multimeter connected to a cir-
cuit.
cap the probe and test lead before performing maintenance, opening the case,
or the battery compartment.
safety precautiOns
use caution when working near voltages above 30 Vac rms, 42 Vac peak, or 60
VDc. Voltages this high present a risk of electric shock.
Disconnect the circuit’s power before connecting the meter in series, when mea-
suring current.
