Take caution as some woods contain preservatives such as copper chromium 

arsenate (CCA) which can be toxic. When working with these materials extra care 

should be taken to avoid inhalation and minimize skin contact.
Take care when handling the Moisture Meter.  The probes of the Moisture Meter are 

sharp.
The warnings, cautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot 

cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood by 

the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into 

this product, but must be supplied by the operator.

unpacking

When unpacking, check to make sure the parts shown the Parts List are included. If any parts 

are missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at the number on the cover of this 

manual as soon as possible.

operating

Remove the rear battery panel and insert a nine volt battery making sure the positive 

(+) and negative (-) polarities on the battery match the polarities in the battery case.
Push the Power Button.

Remove the Probe Cap.  To test the unit, place fingers on the 

outside of the pins and apply light pressure, as shown to the 

right.  Be careful, the pins are sharp.  The unit should read at 

about 30% after a few moments.
Make sure there are no utility lines, wires, nails, or screws under 

the surface of the material to be measured. 
To measure moisture content, insert the Spikes into the material 

approximately 1/4 inch (5mm) deep.  
Allow the readout to settle on a number, and push the HOLD 

button to lock the number.

When finished, push the Power button and place Probe Cover back on the unit be

Keep the unit dry and clean.  Wipe clean with moist cloth as needed.
When the digital display shows this icon: 

, the battery must be changed.  Follow 

the directions in Step 1 under the Operating section to replace the battery.  Dispose 

of used batteries as appropriate for type according to State, Local and Federal laws 

and regulations.
