Spark plug
The spark plug is an important engine component that is easy to inspect. The color and condition of the
spark plug can indicate the condition of the engine. The ideal color on the insulator around the center
electrode is a medium-to-light tan color for an engine that is being operated normally. If electrode erosion
becomes excessive, or if carbon and other deposits are excessive, you should replace the spark plug with
the specified plug.
Periodically remove and inspect the spark plug for heat damage and deposits that will cause the spark
plug to break down and erode. Do not attempt to diagnose spark plug color or engine problems yourself.
Instead, take the vehicle to your dealer for service.
