13. Remove rear internal gear and mainshaft
(fig. 41).
NOTE: DO NOT DROP BEARINGS.

thrust bearing and two (

) races.
15. If necessary, remove rear internal gear
to mainshaft snap ring; to remove mainshaft, refer
to figure 107.

G O VERN O R ASSEMBLY
All components of governor assem bly, with
exception of driven gear, are a select fit and each
assem bly is calibrated. The governor, including
the driven gear, is serviced as a complete a ssem
bly. However, the driven gear can also be serviced
separately.
It is necessary to disassem ble governor a s-

sem bly in order to replace driven gear. D isa s
sembly may also be n ecessary due to foreign ma
terial causing improper operation. In such cases,
proceed as follows:
DISASSEMBLY OF GOVERNOR
1. Cut off one end of each governor weight pin
and remove pins, governor thrust cap, governor
weights, and springs. Governor weights are inter
changeable from side to side and need not be iden
tified (fig. 42).
2. Remove governor valve from governor
sleev e. Be careful not to damage valve.
3. Perform following inspections and replace
governor driven gear, if necessary.
INSPECTION OF GOVERNOR
1. Wash all parts in cleaning solvent, air dry
and blow out all p a ssa ges.
2. Inspect governor sleev e for nicks, burrs,
scoring or galling.
3. Check governor sleeve for free operation
in bore of transm ission case.
4. Inspect governor valve for nicks, burrs,
