Service and Maintenance
57. Slack Adjuster Service Inspection :
Inspect the slack adjusters for damage,
smooth operation, and that the brake
actuator push rod stroke does not exceed
the allowable limit. Perform this
maintenance every 16 000 km
(10,000 miles) or 6 months whichever comes
first. Repair as necessary.
58. Air Brake Chamber :
Inspect the air
brake chamber on each wheel every
16 000 km (10,000 miles). Check for cracks,
damage, and corrosion. Make sure that the
chamber and caging bolt are securely
tightened. Make sure that the dust cover is
collectly installed in place. Repair as
necessary.
59. Air Dryer :
Replace the desiccant
cartridge every 3 years or 160 000 km
(100,000 miles). If excessive moisture is
found when inspecting the air tank drain
valve, replace the dryer filter cartridge
sooner.
60. Air Compressor, Governor and Unloader
Valve Functions :
Inspect air compressor,
governor and unloader valve functions. Start
the engine and let it idle. When the brake
air pressure gauges reach 125 psi ± 5 psi,
check to see that the unloader valve has
opened. Press the brake pedal several times.
The unloader valve should close when the
brake air pressure drops below 105 psi
± 5 psi.
Maintenance Schedule for Engine Oil
andFilter
Maintaining the correct lubricating oil and
filter change interval is a vital factor in
preserving the integrity of an engine. See
the following table to determine the
maximum recommended lubricating oil
change and lubricating oil filter change
intervals. Lubricating oil and lubricating oil
filter drain intervals are based on lubricating
oil capacity and fuel economy. Drain the
lubricating oil and change the lubricating oil
filter according to engine distance or engine
run time from the table below or
18 months, whichever comes first.
