7. If the engine in the disabled vehicle
starts, remove the jumper cables in the
reverse sequence as they were
connected.
Towing the Vehicle
Caution
If the vehicle cannot be shifted into
Neutral (N), do not use the tow eye to
tow the vehicle. Vehicle damage may
occur.
Consult your dealer or a professional towing
service if your vehicle must be towed.
Proper equipment must be used to prevent
damage to vehicles during any towing. State
and local laws which apply to vehicles in
tow must be followed. Vehicles should not
be towed at speeds in excess of 88 km/h
(55 mph).
Use only equipment designed for this
purpose. Follow the instructions of the
wrecker manufacturer.
A safety chain system must be used.
Do not try to start the engine by towing or
pushing the vehicle.
The procedures below must be followed
when towing to prevent possible damage.

Warning
Be sure to chock the wheels when
disconnecting the axle shafts. Failure to
do so could allow the vehicle to roll away
and cause a serious accident resulting in
personal injury, death and/or property
damage.

Place the selector lever in the
N (Neutral) position, and tow for a
maximum distance of 6.2 miles
(10 km) at speeds less than 25 MPH
(40 km/h).

Disconnect the axle shafts when
towing to avoid damage to the
transmission.
.
If at all possible, the engine should be
running if the vehicle is towed with all
four wheels on the ground.

If the engine is not running:
‐
The brakes will not work when air
tanks are depleted, and if the brake
air pressure falls below 73 psi
(503 kPa), the parking brakes will
start to apply;

The steering wheel will be hard
to turn;
‐
The steering wheel could lock,
making it impossible to move.

If you apply the parking brake while
the vehicle is moving, both vehicles
could stop suddenly. If you are not
ready for this, you or others could be
injured. Do not apply the parking
brake while you are driving, unless
you have to make an emergency stop.

Warning
Be sure to block the wheels with chocks
before disconnecting the axle shafts.
Failure to do so could cause a serious
crash. The vehicle will start moving upon
disconnecting the axle shafts.

When towing, disconnect the axle shafts
of the rear axle to ensure the
transmission is not damaged.

Remove the rear axles shafts to avoid
damaging the transmission and
differential. Whenever axles shafts are
removed, the hub openings need to be
