16. Fan on Demand
The Transmig 165ST is fitted with a fan on demand feature. Fan on demand automatically switches the
cooling fan off when it is not required. This has two main advantages; (1) to minimize power consumption,
and (2) to minimise the amount of contaminants such as dust that are drawn into the power source.
On power up of the 165ST, the fan runs for about 8 minutes then stops if there is no welding activities.
MIG Mode: Fan turns on when an arc is struck then continues for approximately 10 minutes after MIG
welding has ceased.
Stick Mode: Fan turns on when an arc is struck then continues for approximately 10 minutes after MIG
welding has ceased.
Lift TIG Mode: Fan turns on when an arc is struck then continues for approximately 10 minutes after Lift
TIG welding has ceased.
Note that the fan will only operate when required for cooling purposes and will automatically switch off
when not required.
17. Hot Start Feature (Not Shown)
This feature operates in Stick (Manual Arc) mode. The Hot Start feature improves the arc start characteristics
by momentarily increasing the welding current to a level above the preset amperage (Welding Current).
This is a preset feature and is not adjustable.
When in Stick Mode and the machine detects a short circuit between the electrode and the work piece.
- The output current increases by approximately 50% of the preset value for 0.1 seconds. Note that the
maximum output current does not exceed 165A in Stick Mode.
- The machines output current reduces back to the preset current value after 0.1seconds.
18. Anti Stick Feature (Not Shown)
This feature operates in Stick (Manual Arc) mode. The anti stick feature senses when the electrode sticks
and automatically reduces the current to prevent the Stick Electrode from sticking to the work piece. This
is a preset feature and is not adjustable.
When in Stick Mode and the machine detects a short circuit output for greater than 0.5 seconds.
- The output is reduced to less than 10A.
- The machine produces a 30A current spike every 0.3 seconds to detect if the short circuit is still present.
- Once the short circuit is removed the machine resets and waits for the next arc strike.
This design allows the user to easily break the shorted stick electrode from the work piece.
