Usage Guidelines
To use this command, you must be in a user group associated with a task group that includes appropriate task
IDs. If the user group assignment is preventing you from using a command, contact your AAA administrator
for assistance.
Use the
shutdown
command to move the state of an interface to administratively down, which stops traffic
flowing through the interface. This state does not stop other action from happening on the interface such as
changes in configuration, protocols, capsulations, and so forth.
The
shutdown
command also marks the interface as unavailable. To check whether the state of an interface
is down, use the
show interfaces
command in EXEC mode, which displays the current state of the interface.
An interface that has been shut down is shown as administratively down in the display from the
show interfaces
command.
