SATA Mode Setup (Optane™, RAID or AHCI)
Note that your system can be set up as a RAID OR to support Intel® Optane™,
it cannot be set to support both systems.
AHCI Mode
Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) is an interface specification that allows
the storage driver to enable advanced serial ATA features such as Native Command
Queuing (for maximum hard disk efficiency and performance). Make sure you in-
stall the
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology
application to support your HDDs/
SSDs in
AHCI
mode (see
“Intel® Rapid Storage Technology” on page 6 - 39
).
Intel® Optane™
Intel® Optane™
is a combination of a compatible memory device and
Intel Rapid
Technology software
. This combination is designed to speed up your system per-
formance by caching boot data, executables, frequently accessed data and system
page files to an non volatile, low latency Intel® Optane™ SSD.
Contact your distributor or supplier to see if your system supports this technology.
RAID
To configure your RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) system in Strip-
ing (RAID 0), Mirroring (RAID 1) or Parity (RAID 5) modes (see
) you will require
at least
two
identical
(see sidebar) SSDs (
or three iden-
tical
SSDs for RAID level 5).
RAID Solid State
Drives
All SSDs in a RAID should
be identical (the same size
and brand) in order to pre-
vent unexpected system be-
havior.
SATA Mode
Selection
The SATA mode selection
should be made
before in-
stalling your operating
system
.
DO NOT change your se-
lected SATA mode
unless
you intend to reinstall your
operating system. Make
sure you have backed up all
your data before doing so.
