Lift rear of vehicle and support on jack stands

LIFTING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE
WARNING
• To place vehicle on four jack stands, lift only one end of the vehicle at a time. Use a suitable lifting
device (chain hoist or hydraulic floor jack) with 1000 lb. (454 kg) minimum lifting capacity. Do not
use the lifting device to hold vehicle in the raised position. Use approved jack stands of proper
weight capacity to support the vehicle.
1.
Place vehicle on a level surface.
2.
Disconnect battery.
See Disconnecting the Battery – Gasoline/Diesel Vehicles, Section 1, Page 1-3.
3.
Chock the front or rear wheels and loosen the lug nuts.
4.
If removing wheels, loosen the lug nuts.
5.
Release the park brake and lift the front of the vehicle with a chain hoist or floor jack.

6.
Place jack stands under the outer front frame and lower onto stands
7.
Position jack under rear differential and lift rear of vehicle. Ensure the vehicle is not pulled off the front jack
stands while lifting the rear.

WARNING
• To prevent possible injury from pulling the vehicle off the front jack stands while lifting the rear,
perform the following:
– Position floor jack wheels in the direction the jack will roll as the rear of the vehicle rises.
– Ensure the wheels of the jack are able to roll freely without obstruction.
8.
Once vehicle is level, place jack stands under the rear axle tubes and lower onto stands
