BATTERY TESTING BASICS – 6 VOLT

OBSERVATION
Inspect the battery compartment for the following items:
• Rusted, corroded, or broken battery posts
• Rusted, corroded, loose or broken wires
• Low or overfilled electrolyte levels
• Cracked, punctured, or bulging battery cases
• Loose, over-tightened, missing, or improperly placed battery hold-downs
• Incorrect orientation of batteries (i.e. terminal posts)
• Poor, fair, or proper cleanliness of batteries
• Added electric accessories
• Use of a single-point watering system (SPWS)
MEASURING VOLTAGE OF BATTERY SET
Set the multimeter to 200 volts DC. Place the red (+) probe on the positive (+) post of battery no. 1 and the black (–)
probe on the negative (–) post of battery no. 8. Record the reading.
