Antenna Requirements
Your CobraMarine VHF radio requires an external marine antenna
to send signals into the air and to receive them. The radio is arranged
to use any of the popular marine VHF antennas, but it is up to you to
choose which antenna to use.
Since it represents the link between your radio and the outside world,
Cobra
®
suggests you purchase only the best quality antenna, coaxial cable,
and connectors. This is best accomplished with the advice
and guidance of a knowledgeable dealer who can assess the variables
involved with your particular boat and preferences.
WARNING
Installation Requirements
Installation of the antenna radiating element(s) should be made in accordance
with EC recommended electromagnetic field exposure limits set forth in the
1999/519/EC. For more information on 1999/519/EC, please visit the European
Commission website at https://ec.europa.eu.
1) Cobra recommends installing the antenna radiating element as high as
possible for maximum performance.
2) As an example, a Marine antenna system specified with a 9dBi antenna gain
requires a minimum installation height that is 1.76 meters above or beyond
any human accessible position on the vessel.
3) For antennas with different gain figures, please consult the antenna
manufacturer for their recommended minimum safe distance when driven by
a Marine radio transmitter capable of 25 Watts maximum RF output.
Radio Operator Requirements
The radio operator is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of the
transmitter. It is recommended that the transmitter not be operated while
anyone is within the minimum safe distance of the antenna radiating element(s)
or in direct contact with the antenna radiating element(s).
Failure to observe the above requirements may expose those within the
minimum safe distance radius or in direct contact to RF energy absorption levels
in excess of the limits defined in the 1999/519/EC.
Antenna Lead Attachment
Once the antenna is installed, the
Coaxial Cable Lead
can
be attached to the socket at the back of the transceiver.
CAUTION
Attempting to transmit without an antenna attached
will damage your CobraMarine VHF radio.
