Multiple stage jacks require additional cautions during operation. These should be used
as a supplement to standard procedures used during normal single stage jacking, to
prevent damage to either the aircraft or the jacking equipment. These additional
instructions are as follows:
Ensure that the largest stage is fully extended first, before the next smallest stage
begins to extend when a load is applied to the jack. It is common for either stage to
extend when no load is applied, but the sequence of stage extension must go from the
largest to the smallest when a load is applied. If the jack does not extend in this
sequence, the jack should be disassembled to determine the cause of the excessive
friction in the ram stages.
