2.15 Upgrading The System Software
The following sections contain information on safety precautions you should take before
working on the common equipment, procedures for making a copy of the call cost records before
upgrading software, instructions for replacing the software cartridge, and instructions for master
clearing the system to load the new software.

Creating A Static Safe Work Area
CAUTION
Circuit boards are susceptible to damage caused by electrostatic discharge, and you must keep
this fact in mind as you handle them.
When servicing the common equipment cabinet, it is a good practice to prepare a static-safe
work area on which to service the cabinet.
Supply yourself with a static discharge wrist strap, and wear it every time you handle electronic
circuit boards either at the cabinet mounting location or at your work area.
