UPS operation modes
This chapter describes the basic modes of the UPS, how to manage and protect the batteries.
Warning: There are dangerous voltages inside the UPS - mains and batteries
There are no user-serviceable parts inside the UPS. Only the manufacturer's authorized
service can open the UPS housing.
3.1.
Introduction
The UPS guarantees the highest reliability of power supply for critical devices. The voltage
parameters generated by the power supply are stable and free from fluctuations in both the
voltage and frequency values, and completely independent of the voltage parameters in the
utility network.
Obtaining high-quality parameters guarantees high-frequency double processing with pulse
width modulation (PWM), all controlled using digital signal processing (DSP), which ensures high
reliability and convenience of use.
3.2.
Principle of operation
As shown in the figure below, the utility voltage supplies the UPS rectifier. The rectifier
converts alternating voltage (AC) into direct voltage (DC). The DC voltage feeds an inverter
system that re-converts DC voltages into a stable AC voltage that is completely independent of
the input voltage. In the absence of mains voltage, the inverter system is powered from the
voltage stored in the batteries. In the event of maintenance work, or in the event of overload,
overheating or other events, the UPS uses a backup power path, the so-called Bypass.
