Verifying a Safe UPS Load
Before connecting any devices, verify that the Battery- and Surge-Protected
Receptacles of the UPS will not be overloaded. The cumulative VA rating of
the devices (the load) to be connected to the Battery- and Surge-Protected
Receptacles cannot exceed 500 (the VA rating of all Compaq Pro UPS 500
models).
■
For devices rated in Amps, use the following conversion equation:
Volts x Amps = VA per device
■
For devices rated in Watts, use the following conversion equation:
Watts x 1.35 = VA per device
NOTE:
Verifying a Safe Load does not include the devices connected to the Surge-
Protected Receptacle(s).
Connecting Devices to the UPS
After verifying that the UPS will not overload, connect the power cords from
the devices to the appropriate receptacles of the UPS. Observe the following
precautions:
WARNING:
Do not use the Compaq Pro UPS 500 for life support applications in
which a malfunction or failure of a Compaq Pro UPS 500 could cause failure or
significantly alter the performance of a life support device.
CAUTION:
Do not plug laser printers into the Battery- and Surge-Protected
Receptacles of the Compaq Pro UPS 500. The instantaneous current drawn by
this type of printer may overload the UPS circuit.
Never plug a UPS into itself. This WILL result in damage to the unit.
If the device is equipped with a three-prong grounded plug, always use it. Do
not use an adapter or otherwise bypass the ground pin.
Using an external surge protector plugged into the OUTPUT of the UPS may
cause the UPS to become overloaded when operating from battery power. Since
the UPS already has surge suppression circuitry, adding extra surge
suppression is not recommended.
The load equipment must be turned OFF before plugging into the UPS.
