Powering Up the Server
After completing all of the installation procedures described above, you are
ready to configure your Compaq ProLiant DL580 server as a stand-alone or
network device. After ensuring that all connections are secure and that the rack
is stable, press the Power On/Standby switch to power up the server for the
first time.
IMPORTANT:
Whenever power is first applied to a power supply, there is up to a ten
second delay before booting begins.
When the system is first powered on, the system ROM and hardware
components in default configurations provide a platform ready for system
initialization. Without further adjustment, the system can run diagnostics and
other software applications needed for SmartStart and System Configuration
programs. SmartStart utilities use this initial information to assist in installing
your operating system and optional system features.
If you insert a System Configuration, Diagnostics, or SmartStart and
Support Software CD in the CD-ROM drive prior to powering on the server,
the system ROM will boot to that utility. If the system ROM does not detect
one of those CDs, you will be prompted for your intended operating system.
The system will restart if any operating system-dependent configurations have
changed with the new operating system selection. If the selected operating
system-dependent configurations are the same as the current configurations,
the system will start normally. If you enter a wrong choice, you can change
your operating system selection on subsequent restarts.
