The amber shelf status LED is normally off. If an error condition occurs, the
LED turns on and an audible alarm sounds notifying the operator that an error
condition exists. Once the user has been notified and is aware of an error, the
alarm disable toggle switch enables the operator to disable the audible alarm
by using the switch.

Controller Status LEDs
The LEDs on the front panel of the controller monitor host and disk channel
activity and a controller fault condition. The reset button/LED flashes green
approximately once every second (heartbeat) to indicate that the controller is
operating normally. See Figure 2-3, “Storagesets, Partitions and Disk Drives”
and Table 2-1, “LED/Reset Switch Interface” for a description of their
functions.
