STAC is able to serve web pages to clients using web browsers. In order
for the browsers to find STAC on your network, STAC must be assigned an
IP address. This address can be a fixed static number or can be assigned
dynamically by your network, if a DHCP server is present on your network.
We recommend use of STAC with a fixed IP address if possible, since DHCP
addresses can change over time.
STAC is factory-configured for dynamic IP assignment and no configuration
should be necessary. The IP address assigned to STAC by the network will
appear on the
Console STAC IP
interface. Simply connect a monitor to the
video port on the STAC mainframe to retrieve this information.
To set the STAC mainframe for
Static IP
, you must have a keyboard and
monitor attached to the STAC mainframe. If a keyboard is not connected to
the mainframe, a reboot will be required after it is attached.
You will need to enter
IP Config Mode
to change this setting:
1) Apply power to the STAC mainframe with a keyboard and monitor at-
tached. Wait for STAC to display the STAC IP screen on the monitor.
2) Press
Control-Alt-F3
(simultaneously) on the keyboard. The STAC IP
interface will be replaced by a command line login prompt.
3) Login by typing the user name
root.
Press
Enter
and you will be
prompted for a password. Use the password
comrex
to access the system.
Note this password remains the same even if you change the STAC IP secu-
rity password.
4) At the
#
prompt, type the word
config
,
then press
Enter
. This will call
up a text editor to allow you to edit the system configuration file.
5) Use the arrow keys to scroll to the line:
#ifconfig=”192.168.0.100 netmask=255.255.255.0”
Remove the # from the front of this line (the # tells the system to ignore
the line), and edit the IP address and netmask parameters to reflect proper
values.
6) Edit the next line:
#defaultrouter=192.168.0.1
Remove the # from the front of the line and edit the router address to the
address of your system gateway (if any).
