• Do not move the product with an installed hard disk when the latter is in operation.

Movements during operation could force the write/read heads in the hard disk to get
stuck on the magnet disk. This can not only lead to data loss, but also to damaging
the hard disk! The same applies to the 30-second period after the computer has been
switched off, until the magnetic disk in the hard disk comes to a standstill.

Cleaning

Before cleaning the device, disconnect it from the power supply. The use of a dry, soft,
lint-free cloth is sufficient to clean the product.

Do not use aggressive detergents as this can cause discolouration.

While cleaning, do not press hard against the surface to avoid scratches.

Dust can easily be removed using a clean brush with long bristle and a vacuum cleaner.

Tips & Notes

a) USB2.0

• USB2.0 devices are backwards compatible. This means that the hard disk enclo-

sure containing the inserted IDE hard disk also functions via conventional USB1.1
ports - but then only at the maximum speed supported by USB1.1 (effectively
approx. 1MByte/s; in USB2.0, speeds up to approx. 35MByte/s are possible,
depending on the USB controller).

• If the hard disk enclosure is to be connected via a USB hub, then the latter too must

support the USB2.0 transfer mode, so that the maximum speed is possible.

b) General

• The LED at the front lights up when the hard disk enclosure is switched on (Power

LED function) or it flashes during read/write accesses.

USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged while the PC is in use.

You should however note that files could be damaged or the operating system could
crash if the connection cable is disconnected while data is being transferred or files
are being opened by a program.

• In Windows, an arrow symbol is displayed in the menu bar when the hard disk (or

other USB devices) is in operation. Click this arrow symbol to „separate“ the device,
i.e. to terminate data transmission, so you can disconnect the connection cable with-
out risking losing data.

While connecting with the USB Y cable included in the delivery, please note that the
two wide USB A plugs are to be connected to the corresponding USB ports of the
computer or USB hub first. Only afterwards should the mini USB plug be connected
with the hard disk case.
