Persons / Product
• As power supply, only use the supplied mains adaptor.
• Only connect the power adaptor to a normal mains socket connected to the public supply. Before plugging
in the power adaptor, check whether the voltage stated on the power adaptor complies with the voltage of
your electricity supplier.
• Never connect or disconnect power adaptors if your hands are wet.
• Never unplug the power adaptor from the mains socket by pulling on the cable; always use the grips on
the plug.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cable is not pinched, kinked or damaged by sharp edges.
• Always lay the cables so that nobody can trip over or become entangled in them. This poses a risk of injury.
• For safety reasons, disconnect the power adaptor from the mains socket during storms.
• Grasp the hard disk laterally in the housing, do not touch the plate with the electronics. Electrostatic
discharge can destroy the hard disk.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor pinched.

4. Installation of a 8.89 cm (3.5”) IDE hard drive
1. Unscrew the two fillister head screws (if installed) from the enclosure cover.
2. Carefully pull the enclosure cover including the board and hard disk bracket from the enclosure.
3. Align the IDE port of your hard disk to the board’s IDE plug and then connect the hard disk to it.
4. Connect the power plug to the hard disk, observing the correct polarity.
5. Fasten the hard disk from below to the mounts, using the two short countersunk screws.
6. Slide the bracket back into the enclosure until the enclosure cover is closed again. Carefully observe the run
of the lateral guide rails inside the hard disk enclosure.
7. Screw the two long countersunk screws back on from the outside of the enclosure, in order to stabilise the
hard disk inside.
8. Fasten the enclosure cover with the two fillister head screws.
5. Positioning
• Plug the stand onto the enclosure and place it on a level surface.
• Alternatively, you can put the enclosure down flat. Place it on a level surface.
6. Operation
1. Ensure the power switch on the back of the hard disk enclosure is in the OFF position.
2. Connect the mains cable to the hard disk enclosure. Insert the mains plug into the wall outlet.
3. Connect the USB 2.0 cable to the hard disk enclosure and the USB plug to a free USB port on your PC.
4. Put the power switch to ON in order to turn the product on.
5. When the LED lights up, the device will be ready for use.
6. When data exchange takes place, the LED flashes.
7. After use, turn the device off using the power switch. When the product will not be used for longer periods of
time, unplug the mains plug from the wall outlet and disconnect the USB plug from your computer.
7. Tips and notes
• USB 2.0 devices are backwards compatible. This means that the hard disk drive can also function with
conventional USB 1.1 ports, but then only at the maximum USB 1.1 speed.
• You should, however, take into account that data may be corrupted or the operating system may crash if
the connection cable is disconnected while data are being transferred (or the cabinet is switched off or the
power unit is disconnected).
• Always treat hard disks with care. Impacts during operation (also for a few seconds after switching off) may
cause the write/read head to touch the magnetic disk, which destroys the hard disk.
• When connecting the hard drive for the first time, it may take up to one minute for it to be recognised. The
time may vary depending on operating system and hardware used.
• A new hard disk has to be partitioned and formatted before it can be used and displayed e.g in the
Windows® file manager.
• With Windows® 7, navigate in the Control Panel to ”System and Security“. Click on ”Administrative Tools“
and then on ”Create and format hard disk partitions“.
• There, select the correct hard drive and create a new partition. Afterwards, the hard drive needs to be
formatted.
8. Cleaning
• Before cleaning, disconnect the product from the computer and the mains.
• Use a clean, dry soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents as these may result in
discoloration of the housing.
9. Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the household waste.
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product according to the relevant statutory regulations.
