Operation
1. You can set up the hard disk enclosure with or without a base. You can also lie the hard disk enclosure
down flat on a surface.
Plastic feet: Attach the four plastic feet included in delivery to the bottom side of the hard disk enclosure.
For this, peel the feet off the paper and stick them on the enclosure.
Base: Put the disk enclosure including hard disk into the base. The base features rubber feet, ensuring
a stable setup.
2. Make sure the ON/OFF switch on the back is set to OFF.
3. Connect the round pin plug of the power cable to the power socket on the back. Connect the power
adaptor to a suitable mains socket.
4. Connect the USB 3.0 cable’s USB-B plug to the USB connector socket and the USB-A plug to a free
USB port on your PC.
5. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the ON position.
6. When the operation indicator on the front lights up, the device is ready for use. You can now start with the
data transfer. The operation indicator will flash during data transfers.
7. Once the data transfer is completed, eject the drive first through your operating system and only then
switch the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position. When the power adaptor will not be used for a longer
period of time, disconnect it from the mains socket.
When your computer switches into sleep mode, or if no data transfer takes place for a longer
while, the hard disk will be turned off and the operation indicator goes off, depending on the
operating system and system settings.
Tips and notes
• USB 3.0 devices are downwardly compatible. This means that the enclosure with the installed hard disk
drive also functions on conventional USB 2.0/1.1 ports – but then only at the maximum USB 2.0/1.1 speed.
• You should, however, take into account that data may be corrupted or the operating system may crash if
the connection cable is disconnected while data are being transferred (or the cabinet is switched off or the
power unit is disconnected).
• Always treat hard disks with care. Impacts during operation (also for a few seconds after switching off) may
cause the write/read head to touch the magnetic disk, which destroys the hard disk.
• When connecting the hard drive for the first time, it may take up to one minute for it to be recognised. The
time may vary depending on operating system and hardware used.
• A new hard disk has to be partitioned and formatted before it can be used and displayed e.g in the
Windows® file manager. With Windows® 7, navigate in the Control Panel to ”System and Security“. Click
on ”Administrative Tools“ and then on ”Create and format hard disk partitions“. There, select the correct
hard drive and create a new partition. Afterwards, the hard drive needs to be formatted.
• Note that certain operating systems do not recognise external hard disk drives that are larger than 2 TB.
Please contact your operating system manufacturer’s customer support for further information on your
operating system.
• If you are not sure about the formatting procedure, contact a specialised computer retailer.
Maintenance and cleaning
• Before cleaning, disconnect the product from the computer and the power supply (disconnect power
supply unit).
• The product requires no servicing on your part aside from occasional cleaning. Use a soft, anti-static and
lint-free cloth.
• Do not use any chemical or abrasive cleaning agents.
• Keep the air vents free of dirt and dust.
