4.7 Storage units
Storage units are those units who stores recorded data and allow retrieval of the data.
The storage units for Consilium VDR are capsules, USB memory stick and Portable
Black Box.
4.7.1 Capsules
The mandatory storage unit is the fixed capsule or for S-VDR alternatively a floatfree
capsule. Both capsules have a storage capacity of 4 GB or 8 GB. The storage time is
minimum 12h. The fixed capsule has an exceptional protection against fire and for the
full VDR also requirements on mechanical penetration resistance. The float free
capsule has a release mechanism that automatically releases the capsule from the
bracket in contact with water and automatically starts to transmit a radio signal to
simplify retrieval.
4.7.2 Portable Black Box
The Portable Black Box (PBB) is an optional unit that has a storage capacity of up to
500 GB or roughly a couple of week’s data. The PBB is a standalone unit without
special protection of the data.
4.7.2.1
Power up the PBB
1.
Press the power button at the front. The blue and green LEDs will start blinking
and there will be a beep before the starting up phase is ready. Wait for constant
blue power LED.

When the power and status LEDs shines with a constant light the PBB is ON and
ready to use.
4.7.2.2
Turn off the PBB
1.
Press and hold power button.
2.
The blue and green HDD LEDs will start blinking and there will be a beep before
the turning off process is over.
Note!
Wait until the LEDs are OFF before disconnecting the unit.
